Fundamental Mission

The Common Bond Basketball Club is an organization established for the social, academic, and athletic betterment of young people in the greater Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti area -- including the surrounding communities in southeastern Michigan. Formed as an organization for boys, Common Bond has begun to encourage female players through our camps and clinics. Presently, we organize travel teams for boys ranging from 3rd grade through seniors-to-be.

Common Bond is dedicated to teaching and coaching basketball in a way that not only fosters on-court success but also challenges players to become more accountable as people. This Common Bond philosophy is evident in our immense dedication and commitment to all young people in the area who are interested in the game of basketball; in our continuing collaboration with local high school coaches; and in our expanding relationships with a growing number of college coaches. We seek their continued and active participation and find their input invaluable to the best possible development of all of our players.

We strive to ensure that the Common Bond experience provides opportunities for young people to learn life lessons while developing a sense of community pride through their participation in the club. Common Bond's diverse groups -- starting with the participants, and continuing with parents, coaches, supporters, and sponsors -- come together to not only create exciting, successful basketball but to also provide permanent value to our society.

We are involved closely with our brother organization -- the REACH Legends -- an inner-city neighborhood outreach program based in Detroit, Michigan. We also undertake involvement in community projects on a volunteer basis in events such as Food Gatherers and Mott’s Children’s Hospital and we fully expect all club members to take active part in these and other events, and to enjoy doing so.

Summary of Goals

In addition to emphasizing the importance of teamwork and fundamentals on the basketball court, we stress the importance of:

- Individual excellence in the classroom;
- Respect and good citizenship in school and in the larger community; and
- The Common Bond forged among teammates as well as other members and supporters of the program.

The entire Common Bond Basketball staff thanks you for your interest in and support of our program. We hope that whether you are a player, parent, coach, sponsor, or other supporter of the program - and whether your experience involves numerous seasons and countless road trips or just one tryout - you find your experience with Common Bond to be truly worthwhile.
